Tblisi, population 1.5 million, has an Old City which has both Eastern and Western stylistic influences.

When they were digging to put a new road in, they discovered remnants of the 15th century old city wall, so they preserved it by putting concrete on top of it and then building the new road above it!
Mother of Georgia - This 65 foot tall aluminum statue was built in 1958 to celebrate Tblisi's 1,500th anniversary. She holds a cup of wine in one hand for her friends and a sword in the other for her enemies.
The Bridge of Peace is a glass and steel pedestrian bridge which opened in 2010 and is a notable landmark in the city.

St. George slaying the Dragon: This legend was first recorded in a Georgian text in the 11th C. and is depicted in many forms all throughout this country. Here it is in the middle of Freedom Square.

"Italian Courtyards" are neighborhoods of inner courtyards with balconies in a European style found throughout the city. in the 19th century these were the homes for the bourgeois, and are now quite in disrepair.
Sioni Cathedral (Mt. Zion): This church holds the relic of the grapevine cross that St. Nino forged in the 4th century.

Holy Trinity Cathedral, was constructed 1995-2004, and is still being painted on the inside. It is the largest church in Georgia and one of the largest worship spaces in the world (by volume because it is so tall inside). It's gold dome can be seen from most everywhere in the city.
